Interior Health has now confirmed that the death of an Okanagan woman from a Listeriosis infection has been positively inked to the strain involved in the Maple Leaf meats recall in August.
The elderly woman died September 4th at Kelowna General Hospital.
She was being treated with oral steroid medication for an underlying chronic health condition at the time that increased her risk of infection. She had ingested deli-meats during a trip to Alberta this past summer.
Medical Health Officer Dr. Rob Parker says officials continue to monitor facilities in case any other cases show up.
"We have no other listeria cases newly reported to Interior Health. The period we are still watch for is the next several weeks in case more cases might occur because of the long incubation period of listeria," says Parker.
The Okanagan death is the second case of Listeriosis linked to the national recall in the BC Interior. A Cranbrook woman was also infected.
