A young North Okanagan man is facing charges after trying to rob a gas station over the weekend.

The 19-year-old went into a Shell station in the 3800 block of 32nd Street just before 8 a.m. Sunday.

Spokesperson for the Vernon RCMP, Gord Molendyk, says the suspect told the cashier to open the till.

“When the cashier ran out of the store, the suspect attempted to open the till but was not successful. When he was not able to open it, he left and jumped into a vehicle,” says Molendyk.

He says a citizen was able to give the police a vehicle description including the license plate number.

The suspect was caught a short distance away. He will be facing a charge of attempted robbery Tuesday.

No weapon was used during the incident.
