How would you like to live in Apple Core, Buttbank, Nutland or Little Miss Chief Gourmet Products Inc.?

These are four of more than 1,100 names submitted to the Westside District Municipality Naming Committee.

There was also at least one submission of 'Neis,' an obvious reference to outgoing mayor, Rosalind Neis.

The deadline for submissions from the general public has passed, however, school students in Westside will have an opportunity to submit names until September 8.

In all, 191 different names were received from the 1,100 submissions.

A petition was also received entitled 'the District of Westbank,' with 53 signatures supporting the name Westbank.

The committee did not reveal how many submissions each name received.

The word 'West' was the most popular, with 36 names containing a form of the word.

'Okanagan' or a derivative showed up in 13 names, 'Vine' appeared in 10 and 'Kelowna' in seven.

First Nation names also made the list in the form of 'Okanakan,' 'Senklip,' 'Senklip Point' and 'Naitaka.'

The naming committee will meet Thursday to set out the process of short-listing the names which will appear on the ballot and the way in which the electorate will vote on the name.

The entire list of names submitted to the committee is available on the District of Westside website.

The final five names will appear on the ballot for the November 15 municipal election.

The ballot is not binding, meaning the new council can choose to discard the choice.
