Tourism: growing industry in BC

To the editor:
In a recent article regarding tourism and BC, Tourism Kelowna CEO Nancy Cameron stated, “Many businesses are investing back into their attractions and making them bigger and they’re offering more. There are also new accommodations and lots of new resort properties being built. All of these things are really an indicator that tourism is thriving”.

I would like to ask Ms. Cameron, where are the attractions that these businesses are investing in? What is being made bigger? For unless you (your family) play golf, drink wine, or gamble there is nothing for them to do.

The water slides, McDonalds Farm, Flintstones are all gone. Thank goodness, we still have Scandia, Fintry Queen and Cyclepath.

The “fun” has been taken out of Kelowna, by the inability of the City Council, with all their By-laws and regulations and the RCMP not been able to manage large crowds.

Furthermore, and more importantly what is tourism Kelowna doing to attract family orientated business? Build it and they will come, or we can bury our heads in the sand.

Two subjects always come up when I meet visitors what to do with the children, and that service and Okanagan is an oxymoron.
