Kelowna City Council is being asked to consider a request to hold municipal elections every four years as opposed to the current three.
The request comes from the City of Port Moody.
In 2007, the Union of B.C. Municipalities endorsed a resolution from Port Moody, endorsing four year terms.
The province turned down the request saying, among other things, it could affect the commitment that people must make to a position that may on occasion come into conflict with their jobs, families and other responsibilities.
The province added implications of the proposal be fully investigated, giving local municipalities the option of holding a referendum on the issue during the November municipal elections.
Port Moody is asking Kelowna Council, and other communities in the province, to seek public opinion of the idea.
