Standoff seen at Langford Road in Kelowna de-escalated peacefully by RCMP

Standoff peacefully resolved

UPDATE: 10:24 a.m.

Kelowna RCMP said they responded to the 200 block of Langford Road in Kelowna on Friday night after residents reported a person yelling out some concerning comments.

Cst. Michael Della-Paolera, Media Relations Officer for the Kelowna RCMP, said a large presence responded to the report since the man had been allegedly screaming and saying things about wanting to kill people.

"We arrived in numbers thinking he was saying something pretty concerning, it turned out to be a mental health problem," he added.

The situation was de-escalated peacefully by RCMP, and the man was cooperative in being taken to the hospital.


UPDATE: 9:30 p.m.

A witness to the heavy police presence at Langford Road in Kelowna has said the standoff went on for more than an hour after police arrived on Friday night.

They claimed that just after 5 p.m., screaming, hollering and swearing could be heard coming from the residence. Shortly after, at approximately 5:15 p.m., five police vehicles, along with officers with assault weapons were visible.

"[It] was all pretty frightening," they shared.

They also said police were at the home the night before, around 8:30 p.m.

A large police presence has been reported in the Rutland area on Friday evening in Kelowna.

A Castanet reader sent in a photo showing a number of RCMP vehicles stopped on Langford Road before 6 p.m. and claimed that police have their guns drawn.

Another reported that a standoff occurred and there are now people under arrest.
