To the editor:
As my husband and I were walking through a local mall we spotted two little girls in one of the stores. The little girls around ages four and six, looking very cute and adorable in their dresses, were laughing and giggling at what they were watching on one of the TV screens. We looked to see if it was a movie we should buy for our children, but when we looked at the screen we watched one actor punch his enemy's head into the ground. He then kicked another actor in the head so as to turn his head around 180 degrees and watched him fall and die. These two sweet little girls were laughing and giggling at this movie.
We inquired as to the movie's name and were told it was Kung Fu Hustle. We then proceeded to a video store to inquire as to the rating of this movie and learned it is 18A. Now I know a person under 18 cannot purchase or even rent this movie from video stores so why is it alright for a store in a mall to be playing this movie in full view of everyone? We assumed that stores would have some type of guidelines for showing movies on their products like those in place for renting or selling. They do not and as such they can put on anything they want at any time they want. We feel we must now bypass this section of the mall as we will not know what they may or may not be showing which may be inappropriate for our children.
