Some quick work from nearby workers and the Kelowna Fire Department put out a potentially dangerous brush fire above the Wilden development.

Photographer Matt Van Emmerik, was in the area when the fire broke out.

"It was on the edge of a rock bluff," says Van Emmerik.

"The winds were blowing from the northwest. If they were blowing from the east, it could have been much worse."

He says two employees from Just Us Roofing were first on scene and worked on the fire until Kelowna Fire Department crews could get to the scene.

Assistant Kelowna Fire Chief, Rodney Miller, says the fire started about 4:45 Wednesday and consumed an area of about 50 to 100 feet by 50 to 100 feet.

He says the perimeter was extinguished shortly after 5 p.m. Crews stayed on scene to put out hot spots.

"Forestry was notified and were not needed," added Miller.
