The William R. Bennett Bridge came through last weeks windstorm with flying colours.
Ministry of Transportation official, Jay Sutton, says the new structure withstood winds clocked as high as 109 km/hour at the top of the hill.
"We had that big wind event last week and the bridge actually fared really well. There were no problems at all, so we're all pleased to see it's performing as it should," says Sutton.
"We had lots of things moving around but everything stood its ground and performed as we expected."
There are 24 anchors on the new bridge, the same amount as were on the old Floating Bridge.
Sutton says 20 of the anchors came from the old structure.
Meantime, RCMP have been targeting speeders who have been using the new bridge as a super speedway.
Some vehicles have been clocked in excess of 100 km/hour.
"I don't think it's too wise to have speeds that high (in excess of 100 km/hour. The bridge was designed for a 60 km speed zone. Especially at the top of the crest, guys that are speeding in excess of 60 km are taking their lives in their own hands."
Sutton says he encourages the RCMP to continue the crackdown.
