Friends: the movie?

There have been rumors flying around the Internet that Friends, one of TV’s most successful shows, would be following in the footsteps of Sex And The City in becoming a full-length film. After Sex’s huge box office success, it would make sense. But if you’re a fan of the show and were hoping for a movie, you’re out of luck. The story is pure rumor, and not at all true. Not sure where the report originated, but it wasn’t in Hollywood. I’d say the chances of this happening are about 1 in 100. I was a fan of the show for the first few seasons, and then became pretty sick of seeing them every Thursday night. Glad this story is false. But now that I think about it, if you were to tell me that Phoebe would be doing a new version of Smelly Cat, I may just have to change my mind. “Smelly Cat, Smelly Cat, what are they feeding you?” Sing it with me now!

Riddle Me This? Which Villain Will Be Featured In Batman’s Next Movie?

Yup, it’s The Riddler. Gary Oldman, who plays Lt. Gordon in the upcoming Dark Knight movie (which is getting HUGE buzz, especially for Heath Ledger’s performance that may just earn him a posthumous Oscar), spilled the beans to Movieweb recently. No word on which actor will get to play the guy in the question mark-laden green suit. Jim Carrey likely WON’T be doing it, probably because he sucked when he tried it the first time. My vote is for Larry David. Tell me he wouldn’t make an amazing Riddler!

Batman to fight the Riddler

As for the current Batman movie about to shatter box office records, there’s a great piece in Entertainment Weekly about the filming of the movie and how Heath Ledger’s performance made such a bold statement for the tone of the film. This is a great read!

Finally, a Reason To Support Internet TV!

This looks amazing. Starting sometime this summer, Strike TV will feature original content created by some of the best writers in Hollywood. When you click on the link to the site, make sure you check out the Teaser video. Content written and produced specifically for the Internet has been around for years, but has never really caught on. Could this be the beginning of a successful new form of entertainment?

Katie Holmes Broadway Debut Headed For Disaster

Anyone could have predicted this outcome. Stepford Katie’s upcoming role in Arthur Miller’s All My Sons probably won’t bring her the critical and artistic recognition she’s hoping for. Okay, she sucked in the last Batman movie, but she’s really not a bad actress. If you remember Dawson’s Creek (ya know, when she was cute and didn’t act like a robot?) you’d probably say she had some solid acting talents. But her problem on Broadway has nothing to do with talent, and everything to do with public perception. People just don’t like her. Her and Tom have alienated themselves from the general public, and it’s going to take some severe damage control efforts to change our views about them. I’m guessing the Broadway run will be cut short rather quickly.

George Clooney Pimps Out French Coffee

It looks like Hollywood’s biggest bachelor isn’t above making some extra coin doing ads in foreign markets. Check out this commercial for a French coffee company, it’s actually a wonderful ad. Don’t worry - it’s in English with French subtitles. Great stuff!

Kate Hudson Lookin' Good

Mrs. Showbiz says: Kate Hudson has been in the news a lot lately for her relationship with Lance Armstrong. What people may not know is that she has partnered with David Babaii for WildAid, a line of environmentally and cruelty-free hair products. From its website (www.db4wildaid.com) it says: “Our mission is to not only celebrate the remarkable beauty in nature–but help sustain it.” Kate traveled to West Africa and it made an impact on her, “Traveling to Africa to shoot the ad campaign (for WildAid) truly changed my life. It made me think about how we should protect ... and cherish our environment and animals.” The products available are shampoo, conditioner, and styling products, and are making its debut this week on the Home Shopping Network in the States. The line will also be available at Target, ULTA, Sally's, Walmart and Walgreens and when Doc Showbiz and I travel to Seattle later this month, hopefully I’ll be able to get my hands on some, and I’m keeping my fingers crossed that it will soon be available in Canada.
