House fire cause undetermined

The investigation into an early morning fire is finished and the cause is undetermined.

A house went up in flames in the 3400 block of Old Okanagan Highway around 5:30 Wednesday morning.

Assistant fire chief Darren Lee says the area of origin has been narrowed down to the second floor sun deck.

“The fire appears to have started in or near a planter or outdoor furniture that was located against the exterior wall of the home. The burn patterns indicate that the fire extended from the sun deck into the roof and interior of the structure from that point,” says Lee.

He says the electrical inspector from the BC Safety Authority was able to rule out electrical failure as a cause.

“There is evidence of smoker’s materials throughout the home, however no smoking materials were found near the planter or outdoor furniture. The property is being turned over to the owner.”
