A Kelowna man is recovering after being hit by a train.

The man was struck by a train around 9:30 p.m. Monday in Salmon Arm.

Corporal Len Laseur says the man was intoxicated when he went onto the tracks.

He says there were Canada Day celebrations happening nearby.

Laseur says that due to the large crowds in the area, the train was going slowly, but it was unable to stop in time to avoid hitting the man.

The man suffered leg and head injuries and is recovering in Shuswap Lake General Hospital.
