Police seize illegal cannabis, $10K in cash during traffic stop near Williams Lake

Illegal weed, $10K seized

Police are reminding drivers about Canada’s cannabis laws after a traffic stop near Williams Lake turned up 350 grams of illegal weed and $10,000 in cash.

According to a BC Highway Patrol news release, a vehicle was pulled over for speeding north of McLeese Lake on Highway 97 on Nov. 27.

BCHP Sgt. Jason Nash said more than 350 grams of suspected illegal cannabis were seized, as well as $10,000 in cash.

“The BC Highway Patrol would like to remind motorists that cannabis products cannot be transported in a vehicle unless it was purchased at a licensed facility, is sealed in its original packaging and is out of reach of the driver and any passengers,” Nash said.

The investigation is ongoing.
