Chronic fatigue and fibromyalgia

We all have days when we feel tired, almost as if, we could stay in bed the entire day. The problem is if everyday is like that, then you may need to look at the bigger picture of what is causing this. You are eating right as healthy as possible, avoiding processed and overcooked foods, you seem to be getting the correct amount of essential nutrients for your body you go to bed at a decent hour, get enough exercise yet, you are still tired. The doctors have told you it is either all in your head or you just need to get more rest. All this is fine but it does not deal with the issue at hand.

Chronic fatigue is reported by 20% of all patients seeking medical care and is considered as a nonspecific sign that is associated with many well-known medical conditions. Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS), Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (ME), and Fibromyalgia Syndrome (FMS) patients suffer from complex overlapping signs and symptoms. According to the National Center for Infectious Diseases (CDC), in order to receive a diagnosis of chronic fatigue syndrome, a patient must satisfy two criteria. (1) Have severe chronic fatigue of six months or longer duration with other known medical conditions excluded by clinical diagnosis. (2) Concurrently have four or more of the following symptoms: substantial impairment in short-term memory or concentration, sore throat, tender lymph nodes, muscle pain, multi-joint pain without swelling or redness, headaches of a new type, pattern or severity, unrefreshing sleep, and post-exertional malaise lasting more than 24 hours. In contrast, FMS patients have overall muscle pain, tenderness, and weakness as primary complaints, but they have most if not all of the commonly found signs and symptoms for CFS. These conditions are so similar that many consider them the same syndrome.

According to the American Academy of Family Physicians, therapy should include exercise, diet, good sleep hygiene, antidepressants, and other medications. This treatment plan does not work it really just buys time for the physician. It cannot work because it does not take into account the individual.

All the above-mentioned syndromes are a perfect example of where homeopathic treatment really shines, because, beyond a set of symptoms that occur together to create a syndrome, each person also experiences each symptom differently. In conventional medicine, treatments tend to address only the symptoms, since the underlying mechanism of the disease is not really understood thereby every patient will receive almost exactly the same treatment. Treatments include: Zoloft, Paxil or Prozac to address fatigue, cognitive dysfunction and depression low dose tricyclic anti-depressants such as Doxepin and Amitriptyline for sleep disorder, and muscle and joint pain and anti-inflammatory drugs, such as ibuprofen and naproxen, for headache, and muscle and joint pain. This form of treatment addresses each symptom as a separate disease and could potentially have patients taking numerous drugs with adverse side effects.

The homeopathic approach to any of the above-mentioned syndromes is not to separate each symptom and prescribe a homeopathic remedy for each one. The homeopathic approach is to treat the person, not the disease. It is not only the disease that determines treatments in homeopathy but also the unique qualities that make up each individual. Hahnemann, the founder of modern homeopathy, had found that the more he knew about his patients, the better he was able to administer an effective homeopathic remedy.

Here you are today having tried all those drugs to no avail, all you want is to feel right again. You do not want to sleep your day away you do not like the lack of energy that makes you unavailable for your family and work.

Homeopathy has had great success in treating these conditions and is free from side effects. It is extremely safe as well as being effective. Considering the length of time you may have had a condition, it is not likely you will be free of symptoms overnight but you will get better. The causes for CFS or FMS are currently not so clear they could very well be a hidden side effect of past vaccinations or due to side effects of medications or, even viral. One of the most effective treatments however, is homeopathy.
