RE: Not another survey
Here is what the survey actually said regarding the development in Joe Rich.
NUMBER OF RESPONDENTS -115 Total
Additional homes on existing parcels, or, subdivision from 4 hectares to 2 hectares, should be permitted without further investigation to either ensure the aquifer can provide long term well water supply, or, without further investigation to ensure new wells do not adversely affect stream aquifers such as Mission Creek. - 33
Further review and information should be required to ensure long-term, stable, water supply prior to consideration of additional homes on acreages or additional subdivision. - 45
The land uses and lot sizes in the Joe Rich area should remain as they are (as reflected in the RLUB adopted and in use since 1997) with limited potential for future subdivision or additional homes. - 37
Note that the residents were NOT surveyed in regards to joining Kelowna.
If you combine the first two results, there is strong support for
Development, IF water is proven also.
However, Mr. Morrison is right re Big White being incorporated on its own.
It would be more expensive as Westside is/will find out. It makes the most
common sense to reduce bureaucracies and political costs by joining the larger group.
And the latest results from a Castanet survey showed that about 600 of 800 surveyed, preferred outlying areas to join the city. About the same result as the Joe Rich survey.
But common sense rarely applies to political decisions. And rural beauty lies in the eye of the beholder!
