Unique tourist opportunities

Reg Tomiye and his wife Donna have made some changes at the farm by building the Apple Orchard RV Park. Reg always the entrepreneur, has created an Agri-Tourism operation in South East Kelowna. Ten fully serviced RV sites have been designed for the large rigs. Each of the pads has lots of power, sewer, cable, TV, water and wireless Internet. There are shade trees, picnic tables and graveled driveways. Accommodation is approved by Tourism BC and booked on a daily basis between April and October. It is a beautiful location and handy to the city. Good for them, that’s making the land work.

When we came here thirty years ago, Reg owned the Green World Garden Centre on Enterprise Way across from the main fire hall. That was almost out of town. We bought a lot of shrubs and trees from his father who would take us out in the back and show exactly what we needed for the new yard we were creating. The entire operation was started by Reg’s grandfather way back in 1916. Reg also started Agra Forest Technologies for cloning woody plants. This was mostly for ornamental products. It was so far ahead in those times and was the place to shop for your garden. In those days Reg had a radio show on Walter Gray’s CKIQ.

Mission Hill Family Estate is pleased to announce the start of a new series of cultural and culinary activities which commences with the opening of the internationally acclaimed Terrace restaurant for the summer.

Beginning in June at the winery is a Concert Series and several evening Cinema screenings. They afford a unique opportunity to enjoy a live performance and see a wine or food themed film in an unrivaled natural setting. The natural grass outdoor amphitheatre provides a marvelous view of the Monashee Mountains and Lake Okanagan, perfect for audiences on a fine summer evening. These additions crown a stellar start to the year, with prestigious awards won to date for Wine Access Magazine's Winery of the Year and Travel and Leisure's Top Five Winery Restaurant globally.

Described by Travel and Leisure Magazine earlier this spring as "the centerpiece of the Canadian wine tourism industry" with "understated wines which rank among the country's best and the Terrace restaurant (open for lunch May-October and dinner June-August) on the estate's front lawn is one of the most glorious dining experiences around," Mission Hill Family Estate was voted by the magazine as one of their global Top Five Winery Restaurants. Reservations for the Terrace and special events at the winery can be made online.

Proprietor Anthony von Mandl and winemaker John Simes produce elegant internationally acclaimed wines with New World flavours and Old World refinement from this incomparable lakeside mountaintop winery. For more information visit:
