Rabbits 'hot button' topic

To the editor:
RE: Culling rabbits: 'political suicide'

It seems to me that some folks at City Hall are more nervous than a cat in a room full of rocking chairs about this rabbit issue. Norm Letnick is using phrases like "political suicide" for gosh sakes. I'm not a politician, but those rabbits seem to be a genuine 'hot button' topic.

Why not donate the $54,000 to the SPCA (or a portion thereof)? Then consult with them about putting out rabbit feeders filled with food that is laced with a birth-control drug. I read this was done with rodents so research is no doubt available on this. Kelowna would probably enjoy some positive publicity because it would be one of those quirky news stories.
Birth-control seems the next best alternative to outright killing (culling) and a lot more P.C.

Personally, the rabbits don't affect me in a negative manner and they seem smart enough to stay off the roadways. I think they are kind of cute actually. The tourists love them. I always see the tourists taking pictures of them. The rabbits and downtown ducks are a nice touch to Kelowna.
