Kelowna’s generosity has put the city in lead, but Kamloops is nipping at our heels.
That’s the latest update from the Kelowna SPCA about the City Challenge to see which city can raise the most money for its SPCA branch by May 15.
This is the third year of the challenge between the two cities and Kamloops has been the winner of each previous fundraiser.
Fundraising coordinator, Marni Adams, says to date, Kelowna has raised just over $71,000 and Kamloops has raised more than $55,000.
She says there are a number of places to make a donation.
“You can purchase a ‘Bone for a Buck’ at Home Hardware Building Centres in Kelowna and Westbank, visit the UPS Store in the Mission, Bone Appetit in the Mission, JJ’s Pet Food and Supply or Doggytopia,” says Adams.
She says the final tally will be read at Orchard Plaza on Thursday.
“We will be out front of the Bone and Biscuit Co. from 12 - 5 p.m. There will be music, a BBQ and drinks.”
Adams says other SPCA fund raising events are coming up after the Challenge ends.
“Yappy Hour is back by popular demand at the Manteo Resort and Waterfront Villas on May 22 from 6 - 9 p.m. Tickets are $50 and include: an appetizer buffet, live entertainment, a canine buffet, doggy favors for all, prizes and a silent auction. Tickets are available at the SPCA, the UPS Stores in Westbank, Mission or Dilworth or the Laughing Moon on Lakeshore.”
Donations for this year’s City Challenge can be dropped off at the shelter, located at 3785 Casorso Road or by calling 861-7722.
