No long weekend highway closures

Your travel plans for the long weekend won’t be interrupted by construction delays.

Construction on Highway 97 near Summerland will halt during the May long weekend, but night time closures are planned for later this month.

Jacqui Lloyd of Arthon Construction says there will be no road closures between Thursday, May 15 and Tuesday, May 20.

“The daily closures will end at 5 p.m. on Thursday and will not start again until 7 a.m. Tuesday,” says Lloyd.

She says the night shift will add additional closures to the highway as crews work to remove the large quantities of material from the site.

“The highway usage drops off significantly at night and so most of the work requiring road closures is scheduled to take place when the impact will be less. For those who must travel at night, we thank you for your patience.”

Starting on May 21, night shift closures will run between 7 p.m. and 5 a.m. each day.

One hour closures will be from 7 p.m. until 8 p.m., 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. and 10 p.m. until 11 p.m.

Two hour closures will take place from 12:30 a.m. until 2:30 a.m. and 3 a.m. until 5 a.m.

Half hour closures may occur at any time between 9 p.m. and 12:30 a.m.
