Rutland homicide: Update

One man has been arrested in connection with a homicide in Kelowna Monday morning.

A man was found dead inside a home in the 500 block of Eastbourne Road in Rutland.

Constable Julie Rattee says officers responded to a call of shots fired around 8:45 a.m.

“It does appear the man suffered a fatal gun wound. Shortly after, RCMP arrested a man at the location. At this point, investigators are not looking for anyone else in connection with this incident,” says Rattee.

She says they do not believe this was a random event and the suspect and the victim were known to each other.

“We don’t believe it was drug-related. Investigators are not prepared to confirm if either the suspect or the victim were residents of the house.”

Rattee says investigators are being very cautious in what information they are willing to release at this point.

“Especially when dealing in this kind of scenario, they have to take all precautions as to not jeopardize the course of the investigation. Right now they are actively interviewing people and trying to gather information.”

It’s unknown if any weapons were seized from the house.
