BigSteelBox.com, the moving and storage company, is expanding its business to meet the demand for its innovative ‘Door to Door’ service.
Kelowna entrepreneur, Jason Siebenga, whose family own and operate the company, explained how the service works and why it is proving so popular with homeowners:
“Essentially, the ‘Door to Door’ service helps reduce the hassle of moving. It enables the homeowner to gradually pack up their entire home contents into a secure, steel storage unit that we deliver to their front door. Once the homeowner has all their belongings safely inside the unit, we can then deliver it to their new home – where he can unpack at his leisure. Compared to the cost of hiring a removal firm, our rates are very competitive and the longer time-line makes it much more convenient.”
For families who are not able to move into their new home immediately, the service is even more accommodating, “In the past, families would transport all their belongings to a storage facility, where they would unload it all to be stored. Once they were ready to move to their new home, they would then have to load it for a second time into the truck. Now with our new service, you need only pack your belongings once because we can store your packed unit in our yard until you are ready to move,” added Siebenga.
All of the units supplied by BigSteelBox.com are secure, wind and waterproof, rodent-free and fire-resistant, and come with clean hardwood floors.
Not surprisingly, the service is attracting a lot of customers – not just families moving to a new home, but also those who are renovating their homes. The service offers renovators an extra ‘room’ to safely store their belongings while they get on with the work. Because everything can be securely stored onsite, there’s no moving back and forth to a third-party storage facility to access the stuff, as you need it.
The ‘Door to Door’ moving and storage service already represents at least 50 per cent of BigSteelBox.com’s business in Kelowna. To support its expansion plans, the company has purchased new equipment that will enable it to handle and deliver loaded containers with up to 15,000 lbs inside.
The original BigSteelBox.com franchise was established in Salmon Arm in 1999. Originally, the business focused its operations on the sale of used steel units and then expanded its services into the selling, leasing and renting of original and custom modified units to construction companies and other businesses. More recently the company introduced its ‘Door to Door’ service, a storage and moving service targeted at homeowners. The company currently employs 20 people and has 13 outlets across Western Canada.
