Kelowna RCMP have wrapped the yellow crime scene tape around a Rutland home.

The tape went up late Monday morning at 535 Eastbourne Road, where police have taken one person into custody and have retrieved one body.

"One person of interest has been taken into custody and from what I understand, that person is a resident," says RCMP Staff Sergeant Terry McLachlan.

There are at least two suites in the home.

Police also took a female from the residence. Her involvement in what transpired in the home is not clear.

Sergeant McLachlan confirms the victim is a male, but could not confirm his age or whether he was a resident.

Neighbours say the home is owned by an older man and that police were at the residence on a regular basis prior to Monday's incident.

They also report hearing shots in the neighbourhood at around 8:30 this morning followed by a large police presence shortly after.

More details to come.

Update: RCMP say they have one suspect in custody and that the victim found in the home died from a gunshot wound.
