RE:
Joe Rich incorporation to council
If I was a resident of Kelowna, I would not want City Council wasting my tax dollars on yet another---the third!---survey of Joe Rich residents to determine their fate. We have had two kicks at the questionnaire can, concerning our futures. An over-whelming majority expressed their sentiments clearly they like things as they are! The Regional Board based their decision to accept the suggested terms by the overwhelming majority of residents. That Rural Land Use By-law was sent to Victoria where it was reviewed by Provincial Government ministries and accepted and became the law!
What could be more definite than that?
CORD Chair Robert Hobson had the right answer if there MUST be another questionnaire, it MUST outline the financial gains---if any—and the costs of such an amalgamation to the residents.
Patty Hanson, Joe Rich representative on the Regional Board pointed out that petition represented only 10% of residents. Is that enough to justify the costs to Kelowna tax-payers? Ms. Hanson’s conclusion was that 90% of Joe Rich residents don’t want to be sucked into the city of Kelowna.
Here is a suggestion to those who want to be in Kelowna? MOVE to Kelowna!
As for the pie-in-the-sky suggestion that the Big White Ski Resort be part of Joe Rich-----has anybody asked the owners of Big White WHY they would want to make that change? If anything, Big White could legitimately appeal to the Provincial Government to become incorporated but from what I have learned that suggestion was rejected. Why?--because such an incorporation would be much more costly.
As for Big White’s “contribution” to Kelowna--the city has supplied the architects, the work crews, the building supply firms etc. All of them are taxed by the city, to one degree or another.
