You should plan on the road being closed.
Jacqui Lloyd of Arthon Construction says the travelling public should plan for full closures twice a day from Monday May 12 until Saturday May 17.
“Road closures north of Summerland will continue to include a half hour closure at 10 a.m. and a one hour closure at 1 p.m. each weekday. These closure times often are for a shorter period and may not, in fact, occur at all, depending on drilling production on that day. However, we ask that the traveling public plan for the full closure during the times posted,” says Lloyd.
He says the project involves the removing of 1.7 million m3 of material.
“This is enough rock to fill a line of dump trucks bumper-to-bumper from Regina to Vancouver and enough dirt to reach from Regina to Thunder Bay, or enough material to fill a ring of wheelbarrows around the world! Extensive blasting is required and each blast produces considerable material to remove. You can appreciate this does result in some delays to the traveling public.”
Lloyd says minor stops for dump truck crossings of the highway can be anticipated anytime from 7 a.m. through to 5 p.m.
“Additionally, sections of the highway may have single lane alternating traffic. This is necessary to accommodate filling of dump trucks along that section.”
He says drivers should also remember that the speed zone in the construction area is 70 km/hr.
