An alert member of the Vernon Safe Communities Unit assisted in the apprehension of four suspected thieves Friday morning.

According to police, the retired officer noticed a stolen boat being towed by a white jeep after hearing the description on a local news broadcast.

"He called the police. Within minutes, members of the Vernon detachment were able to stop the vehicle and boat near 43rd Street and 25th Avenue," says spokesman, Gord Molendyk.

"They took a male and female into custody for possession of stolen property."

Molendyk says the same retired officer noticed a red car being driven erratically in the vicinity of the Upper Room Mission.

"His instincts told him it had to be stolen. The dispatch centre confirmed the vehicle was stolen."

He says a second male and female were apprehended for possession of stolen property.

"Within 20 minutes, police were able to recover a stolen boat, trailer and car."

All four remain in custody.
