It's not the news motorists wanted to hear.

Officials have announced that they're closing one of the three lanes to the Okanagan Lake floating bridge Friday afternoon.

"We have to close one of the southbound lanes to the bridge this afternoon. There was an accident last night where a pickup truck struck the side of the bridge and damaged one of the girders," says Geoff Knight of the Ministry of Transportation.

"Unfortunately, the repairs will likely continue all through rush-hour and we expect the repairs to be completed later this evening."

Knight says officials are confident that the repairs will be done by Friday but in the meantime, he's asking motorists to be prepared.

"We ask motorists to plan for some extra time if they have to head over to the Westside because we do expect some delays."
