Change – it's inevitable and we, as parents, probably try and give our children the tools to deal with the various changes that happen throughout a lifetime. From the 'big' ones like loss of a family member or the separation of parents to the other more common ones like loss of a friend, new school, new teacher, or new house.

Let's face it – change happens, and not all change is bad. Often, it can lead to a positive experience, a new direction, or a fun surprise around the corner.

Some of us are hard wired to accept, and even anticipate change, while others are innately programmed to resist it.

What about you? Are you one to go with the flow or do you like the structure of knowing what comes next and keeping things the same?

How about your kids? Do you find that perhaps they're more like you than you think? Are they creatures of habit and routine a little more than their peers? Or perhaps a little too easy going and don't seem to put enough structure into their lives?

While there is no right or wrong way to anticipate or deal with change, the important thing is understanding how your kids react to something different. Only then can you arm them with their own unique sets of tools to effectively deal.

And speaking of changes, Kelowna's website for parents (http://www.kelownaparents.com) has undergone a major change! A new face lift, new goals, new sections, more links, more events, more resources, and a 'to go' newsletter delivering all the fun to moms (and dads) on the run.
