Gravel pit operation grinds to a halt

A gravel pit operation in Oyama has been shut down --- at least for the time being.

Lake Country Council has ordered Oyama Sand and Gravel, which operates a gravel pit, to cease operations immediately.

"Last night (Tuesday), Council ordered the operation cease because the operator has not complied with all the terms of the conditions of the permit," says Lake Country Administrative Officer, Randy Rose.

"That information has been passed on to the operator."

Rose says Council will meet with the operator May 20 to discuss changes the company would like to see made.

"In the meantime, he is not supposed to be operating."
