An amazing journey will pass through Penticton this weekend.

Seven-time Ironman competitor and Hollywood actor Matt Hill, and award-winning national speaker, Stephanie Tait, will run 17,700 kilometres across Canada and the U.S.

The trek to raise environmental awareness and generate $1 million was launched on Sunday, May 4, with the 37th annual BMO Bank of Montreal Vancouver Marathon.

The two will pair off, running a relay style marathon a day, three days on and one day off, for the duration of the tour.

“It is our vision that the daily action of us running for one year will inspire others to take steps to help the environment one person, one action, one step at a time,” says Hill.

“We hope to inspire one million people to commit to at least one new “green” friendly habit,” Tait says. “Money raised will go to fund other Run For One Planet green marathons across Canada and the U.S.”

Home Depot, TELUS, Go-West RV Centre, Memorex, BC Hydro Power Smart and Carmanah Technologies Corp, are among green-minded businesses and organizations that have helped fund the 2008/2009 Canadian and U.S. Tour.

Actor Matt Hill is a seven-time IRONMAN competitor and has worked with Martial arts legend Jackie Chan in ‘Shanghai Nights.' He is also the voice of several popular animated series, including Ninja Turtle, 'Rafael.'

A web cam will broadcast the marathon tour and will combine GPS tracking
data and other information from the campaign.
