For the third straight year, the Kelowna and Kamloops SPCA's are going head-to-head to see who can raise more money for the BCSPCA City Challenge.

“We've just had a remarkable weekend of raising money for our local animals,” says Marni Adams, fund raising coordinator for the Kelowna SPCA. "Kelowna is sitting at $17,406 raised, with Kamloops slightly ahead at $17,640."

Kelowna is looking to win this year after dropping the two previous years to Kamloops. “We will blow Kamloops out of the water after Friday with the golf tourney!" Adams says.

So far, the city has rallied around the SPCA to help raise awareness and to generate the needed funds.

Walmart has contributed their services selling Pedigree Flags for $1.

The Coast Capri is hosting the Doggytopia Gala Auction on Thursday, May 8, sporting bachelors, bachelorettes and celebrity couples to bid on. There will be appys, prizes and a silent auction.

The Mission Park Mall Extravaganza, will take place on Saturday, May 10 from 10:00 until 3:00 pm, where there will be music, kid’s games, prizes, a prize draw and the Cookie Counter.

Also, on May 10, Nature’s Fare on Lakeshore Drive is hosting a doggy wash for $5 a head. A good cup-o joe will be provided.

“Yappy Hour is also back by popular demand,” says Adams. “It'll be happening at the Manteo Resort and Waterfront Villas, May 22 from 6:00 pm- 9:00 pm. You can get tickets at the SPCA.”

“We'd like to thank all who've helped with contributions and donations so far,” Adams says. “We recently had two cheques come in, each $500! Let’s keep it up Kelowna and help our local animals.”

The Challenge runs until May 15.
