An 18 year old Penticton man who called police for help had it backfire on him.

On Friday, the man phoned in saying people were shooting at him in the Carmi area.

When Penticton RCMP arrived, they found an 18-year-old who was well known to them.

The man was high on drugs and was supposed to be serving a weekend sentence in jail.

It was determined that no-one was shooting at him and he was promptly arrested for being unlawfully at large.

Corporal Rick Delabuur of Penticton RCMP, says they connected the man with another crime.

In addition to the former charge, Kevin Wiens has also been charged with two counts of robbery with a weapon.
