Greater Vernon Water in conjunction with Interior Health has issued a boil water notice for customers on the Duteau Creek Water Supply.
Recent warm weather has accelerated snow melt in the surrounding mountains and has increased creek water levels. The current water quality is now rated as POOR due to increased turbidity.
The areas affected by this notice are:
• Customers receiving drinking water from Duteau Creek (Upland System)
What should these customers do?
Greater Vernon Water and Interior Health recommend that ALL customers in the
affected area on Duteau Creek Water Supply drink boiled water or a safe alternative.
Until further notice, water intended for the following uses should be boiled for one minute:
• drinking
• washing fruits and vegetables
• making beverages or ice
• brushing teeth
Boiled water should then be refrigerated in a clean, covered container. Customers may also choose to use bottled or distilled water, or water that has been filtered through a well-maintained treatment device.
Water Filters should have the designation “Absolute one micron Certified NSF Standard #53”.
In accordance with Interior Health requirements, owners of all public facilities must post “Boil Water Notices” at all sinks or drinking water fountains accessible to the public. Alternatively, public fountains and taps may be turned off.
Greater Vernon Water is taking additional measures to reduce risk, and a notification will be issued when water quality has improved.
