Mariah – Married or Not?
Gossip sites everywhere are trying to figure out whether Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon really got married. What I find baffling is how some blogs are referring to a Facebook posting by a relative of Cannon as a “source”. Since when is a posting on Facebook considered even close to being a reliable source? And since when did we even care whether or not Mariah is married? Apparently, people care. My take is that it’s just a publicity stunt to steal the thunder of the “Are Jay-Z and Beyonce really married?” question. Some gossip sites are even reporting that Mariah married someone else altogether, but those rumors are supposedly false. Why do I care about this again?
Miley’s Wicked Stepmother
Yeah, I know, we’re all sick of the Miley Cyrus photo scandal already. But Disney is still upset. So much so that they’ve pulled Miley out of several Disney-sponsored appearances this weekend. They’ve even replaced her with another up-and-coming Disney teen star Selena Gomez. Disney really is Miley’s wicked stepmother! Give the girl a break, already. And while you’re at it, give Annie Leibowitz a break as well. She was only doing her job taking the photos. TMZ should leave Annie alone as well - they’ve been following her around everywhere. I’m hoping for a huge editorial rant from Graydon Carter (Vanity Fair’s editor) in next month’s issue!
Pimpin’ Ain’t Easy for Usher (at least with his kids)
In today’s issue of the New York Post’s Page Six column, R&B star Usher explains he will never sell pictures of his children to any tabloid or magazine. Good for you, Usher. I applaud that stance. It actually sickens me when celebs sell their baby pics to the highest bidder. Usher may not be the poster boy for good behaviour (not even close), but this brings him up a few notches on the cool scale.
You’ve probably heard his latest single with Young Jeezy, called Love In This Club. But you likely haven’t heard the remix/Part 2 version, a slow ballad called Love In This Club part. 2 (clever title!). This new spin on the song features Beyonce and Lil’ Wayne, and is smokin’ hot. There’s no video, but you can listen to the song while looking at still images here:

Brangelina More Influential Than Oprah?
Brad and Angelina. Love them or not, they are a power couple. Time Magazine has them listed as Number 21 on their 2008 list of the world's 100 most influential people. George Clooney (yes, THAT one) is the writer of the article on them and he cites their numerous efforts in Darfur, New Orleans, and the United Nations. These are just some of their awareness raising efforts on top of raising four children, both biological and adopted. Say what you will about this couple (like: Did you ever stop to think about how they are both the #1 reason for heterosexuals to blurt out “ya know, if I were gay, I would totally do Brad/Angelina”) but I admire them for actually doing something to change things and not just talking about it.

Suri’s Dungeon Dwelling
Saw this on TMZ today. It’s a video clip from Oprah’s interview with Tom Cruise. Tom is very subdued in the interview, and nowhere near as animated as he was two years ago. At the end of the clip, Tom shows Oprah where Suri spends her playtime. Is it me, or does that dwelling look really creepy and dungeon-like? I dunno, I think it’s freaky.

Amanda. Best. Survivor. Ever.
Oh yes. Peep this Hidden Immunity Idol, bitches! Amanda shocked everyone by playing the idol at the end of the jury vote on Survivor last night. I’ve decided that Amanda is the best player in the game’s history, and very much deserves to win this time (I thought she should have won the first time around as well). Last night’s show was amazing! The look on the jury’s faces was priceless.
Last Night’s TV Ratings (source: zap2it.com)
"Survivor: Micronesia - Fans vs. Favorites" (7.7/13) put CBS on top at 8 p.m. ABC's "Ugly Betty," 5.6/9, finished second in households, but "Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader?," 5.4/9, brought more viewers to FOX. "My Name Is Earl," 4.4/8, and "Scrubs," 3.8/6, came in fourth for NBC. The CW's "Smallville" trailed.
At 9 p.m., "CSI" grabbed the night's biggest audience with an 11.0/17. "Grey's Anatomy" posted a 10.2/16 for ABC (and led the hour among adults 18-49). "Don't Forget the Lyrics" kept FOX in front of "The Office," 4.7/7, and "30 Rock," 3.4/5, on NBC. "Supernatural" delivered a 1.6/3 for The CW.
"Without a Trace" completed CBS' sweep of the night with an 8.7/15 at 10 p.m. "Lost" scored a 7.0/12 for ABC, and "ER" came in at 5.1/9 for NBC.
As mentioned above, Survivor was one of the better episodes ever. I also found last night’s airing of The Office to be a contender for strongest episode this year. Everything about it was pretty spot on – there were a lot of laughs and the writing was really crisp. Plus, Michael’s attempted Rodney Dangerfield/Jerry Seinfeld/Jeff Foxworthy/Borat imitation at the end of the show was one of The Office’s finest moments. Classic.
The weekend is here, so get out and enjoy! Come back Monday for a recap of all the weekend’s gossip, and to see how well Iron Man does at the box office.
