Paula Sees Into Jason Castro’s Future
In what had to be one of the most awkward moments in Idol history, Paula Abdul babbled her way through yet another performance critique. This time however, she was criticizing a song that hadn’t been performed yet. Eerily, she was pretty much dead on about what was to be Jason’s ghastly rendition of September Morn. Was this a case of Extra Sensory Perception or simply Extremely Sauced-up Personality? I’d say the latter. I could watch that over and over. In a perplexing attempt to cover up the blunder, Paula appeared on Ryan Seacrest’s morning show on LA’s KIIS-FM this morning and blamed it on a wide variety of excuses. None of which made any sense. Listen to the interview here:

Paula may be rather wacky, but we wouldn’t want her any other way. More on Idol later in the column.
Kate Hudson World’s Most Beautiful Person
Today, People magazine named Kate Hudson as the world’s most beautiful person. She certainly is gorgeous - I have no arguments there. Yummy mummy! But what does this say for young women struggling with weight issues trying to fit in to that whole “model-thin” image the media insists on portraying as the ultimate body type? Kate, much like her former husband Chris Robinson, needs to eat a meal once in a while.
Curiously, the #5 most beautiful person is Sarah Silverman. She’s very attractive as well, but I’m rather shocked (yet happy) that People would list her that high. Female stand-up comediennes are rarely known for their looks. It’s amazing to see Ms. Silverman being recognized for something other than her outrageously funny sense of humour.
Sidebar: if you haven’t seen it yet, and are not easily offended, go rent Sara’s comedy film “Jesus is Magic.” Hilarious and cringe-worthy brilliance.
Mileygate Part 2
Yesterday, I talked about Miley’s Vanity Fair photo shoot, and how Disney was so outraged at the results. In an attempt to put things into perspective, TMZ has brought to light another photo shoot, this one sponsored by Disney themselves. It features women made to look like girls in their mid-teens, all in the name of selling Disney-themed lingerie to young girls in China. Disney is the pot and Vanity Fair is the kettle!
Check out the photos here:

As for Miley, the theory was that she would try to stay out of the public eye for a long time. That lasted a day. Extra has video of Miley outside a Target store in Nashville. Leave the girl alone already. Yes, she made a mistake by creating a frenzy about the photos. I still feel bad for her.
The Extra video is here:

Jamie-Lynn Spears Baby Bump: Girl!
I won’t spend much time on this story, other than to say that I hope that the new female Spears, in the year 2023, does not follow the same life decisions as Mama Jamie or Auntie Britney. There’s a lot to poke fun at, but it’s been done to death so we’ll just leave it at that.
Last night’s TV Ratings (source: zap2it.com)
"American Idol" scored a 14.3/22 for FOX at 8 p.m., improving a smidge on its performance from last week. CBS was a solid second with "NCIS," 9.3/15. A pair of "According to Jim" episodes averaged 3.0/5 for ABC, which was good enough to beat the 2.3/4 for "Most Outrageous Moments" and "Saturday Night Live: The Best of Alec Baldwin" on NBC. "Beauty and the Geek" trailed for The CW.
ABC took the overall lead at 9 p.m. with the "Dancing with the Stars" results show, 11.2/17. FOX, however, had a substantial edge among adults 18-49 thanks to "Hell's Kitchen," 7.2/11. CBS dropped to third with the return of "Shark," 6.8/10. NBC's "SNL" special stayed in front of The CW's "Reaper" (1.6/2), but not by much.
The 200th episode of "Law & Order: SVU," with guest star Robin Williams, scored an 8.1/13 for NBC at 10 p.m. "Women's Murder Club" returned to ABC with a 5.8/10, bleeding about half its lead-in audience. A "CSI" repeat on CBS posted a 5.3/9.
I’m puzzled as to the reasons behind Idol’s ratings improvement in the last few weeks. Andrew Lloyd Weber and Neil Diamond-themed shows have performed better than Mariah Carey, yet Mariah continues her reign atop the Billboard album charts this week. Is the Idol audience slightly older than Mariah’s fan base, or are we just simply sick of Mariah? Probably a bit of both.
As for the Idol show, it’s hard to concentrate on the performance with Paula’s huge blunder. But let’s try:
Jason – Terrible as usual. Both songs. He’s been really bad for at least three weeks now, and if he doesn’t go home tonight, it would be a shame. Don’t get your hopes up, people, I’m thinking Syesha’s probably going.
Brooke – Night and day. First song was horrific, but the second was vintage Brooke. I’m not quite sold on her ability to sustain a career out of all this, but she redeemed herself enough on the second song to head into next week.
David Cook – Solid. He’s been solid for a long while now, and is so far ahead of the others in terms of both talent and marketability. His smugness is very off-putting, but if he doesn’t win I’m gonna be pissed!
David Archuletta – Just OK. This guy has no idea about what he’s ever singing. Seriously. Look at his face. He has a nice voice, but he is nowhere near the same league as Cook. Can you honestly see him putting out an album of original material and being able to sell it? Taylor Hicks comes to mind pretty damn quick.
Syesha Mercado – Good as usual, but not enough to save her. I like Syesha. She has a great personality and a strong voice. I can also see her making a name for herself in the music industry. But tonight is probably her night to say goodbye.
Not much on TV tonight, but hockey’s on. Habs try to even the series with the Flyers (go Habs – you’re our only Canadian team left!) and the Stars try to sweep the Sharks (oh how sweet that would be).
Tomorrow’s TV schedule is full of great stuff! So come back tomorrow to get all the goods. For all you Survivor fans, you want to miss tomorrow’s edition of Celebrity Soup. Until then, we love hearing from you -email us at docshowbiz@gmail.com!
