Summerland fire department BBQ

The Summerland Fire Department will be dealing with a different sort of flames later this month.

Fire chief Glenn Noble says they are hosting a fund raising BBQ and car wash on May 31 to raise money for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.

“One of the fire fighter’s on our team has a son who was recently diagnosed with JD and we want to show our support to him,” says Noble.

He says the BBQ/car wash will run between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. at the Shopper's Drug Mart parking lot.

“About 35 children are newly diagnosed each day as a type one diabetic, and kids should not have to deal with daily insulin injections or finger pokes to test their sugar levels, so we are stepping up to the challenge to help find a cure for our kids.”
