Two Westside schools vandalized

It's been nearly two weeks and officials at a pair of Westside schools still have no idea who vandalized their properties.

During the early morning hours of April 19, vandals broke into the Sensisyuten House of Learning and the Chief Tomat Elementary and did some serious damage.

Kristy Jean with Westbank First Nation says they believe it was likely more than one person responsible for the damage done to the schools.

“We are guessing it was the work of at least two or three people. The damage was especially bad at Sensisyuten. The doors were smashed, more than 17 windows were broken, the bathrooms were destroyed. Some windows were also broken at Chief Tomat. In total, the damage is estimated at about $10,000,” says Jean.

She says the bathrooms at the Pine Stadium were also vandalized.

“There is graffiti everywhere. We have sent out information packets to all the parents, telling them what has happened and to see if we can get more information.’

Jean says as a result of the vandalism, the schools are considering installing security cameras.
