Another human skull has been found in the Okanagan.
The discovery was made Saturday afternoon in the Antonine Road area of Vernon just before 5 p.m.
Gord Molendyk of the Vernon RCMP says the skull was found by members of the Okanagan Indian Band who were out for a hike about 10 kilometres from the Head of the Lake Road turnoff.
“It is a remote area in the Community Pasture that is used by the Band. Our officers went to the scene and secured it after a preliminary search. On Sunday, about 20 members of Search and Rescue were called in to assist in the search of the bush area around where the skull was found,” says Molendyk.
He says the skull will be examined by a pathologist and an anthropologist later this week.
“We will be checking dental records and all missing person files. At this point we cannot give an approximate time the skull has been there.”
The Okanagan Indian Band Counsel is assisting in the investigation.
On April 5, a human skull was found in Kelowna City Park. It has been determined that skull belonged to a woman between 20 and 30 years old, but no other information about it has been released.
