The fire at the Hamlets is an obvious set back to some seniors who were preparing to move into the Penticton seniors complex.
A large portion of the facility burned down Sunday afternoon, leaving some future residents scrambling.
Donna Lomer from Interior Health says the fire has caused a set back, but not a crisis.
“The facility was opening with 75 residential care beds, 23 assisted living units being funded by Interior Health. They also had some private pay options,” says Lomer.
She says 30 of the residential care clients are currently being housed by Kelly Care in Summerland.
Lomer says the recruiting process was underway for the Hamlets, but she doesn’t know how many had been hired or how far along they were in hiring staff.
It's not known if H&H Total care, the company responsible for managing the facility, is planning to rebuild.
