A different type of brewery

Kelowna's brewery district is serving up something a little different.

MotherLove Ferments has opened a kombucha bar in the north end, using all organic ingredients, no artificial flavours and a high probiotic count.

Kombucha is a fermented, sweetened tea drink commonly consumed for its health benefits which include cleansing and detoxing, immune system support and improved digestion.

The new business is located at 889 Vaughn Avenue and features a production facility and a kombucha bar tasting room.

"I have grown up in Kelowna and I have seen it grow and change, I love that we have a brewery district," "said owner Rochelle Minagawa.

Just the variety of local craft beer is really fun, but I recognize that there is more and more people who aren't drinking or want an alternative so it is kind of fun to have different options whether people are bar hopping and want to take a break and have something non-alcoholic or just want a healthier option."

MotherLove Ferments will eventually also be offering alcoholic drinks.

"We have four standard kombucha flavours: Lavender Lemonade, Blue Alchemy, Holy Hibiscus, and Just Ginger. Then we also have four standard flavours of water kefir... kombucha's non-caffeinated cousin," Minagawa added.

The grand opening of MotherLove Ferments will take place on Sept. 17 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and includes free kombucha tastings, and 50 per cent off growlers.
