Your pooch will have more room to roam if Kelowna City Council approves an expanded list of off-leash and on-leash dog parks.

The recommendation comes to council on Monday from the parks department.

Thirteen more park areas are to be opened for dogs on leashes, and four park areas will be test-flown as off-leash zones.

Dogs would be allowed to run free, under their owners' supervision, from mid-May through mid-September. The results will then be evaluated.

On the off-leash list: portions of Knox Mountain Park, Kinsmen Park, and Rutland Recreation Park. The small Duggan Park will be tried out as an off-leash zone for small dogs only.

Approving the new on-leash parks will bring the city's inventory to 60. Kelowna currently has five off-leash dog parks.
