Spring cleaning has begun at a dirty home in Kelowna.

City crews have started a two-day cleaning process at a home at 440 Gerstmar Road, following a complaint related to the City’s Unsightly Premises and Visual Nuisance Bylaw.

Inspection Services Manager, Ron Dickinson, says maintaining the cleanliness and safety of neighbourhoods is a City priority.

“We respond to complaints in a timely manner and work with property owners to ensure that proper action is taken. The City’s Unsightly Premises and Visual Nuisance Bylaw prohibits owners from allowing their property to become unsightly with the accumulation of discarded material or rubbish,” says Dickinson.

He says following up on a complaint, the City inspected the property and made repeated contact with the owner requesting the site to be cleaned up.

“In addition to other material, five vehicles, two utility trailers, a motor home, camper, snowmobile and an aluminum boat will be removed from the property’s front yard. Vehicles and any valuable materials removed from the site will be held for 30 days.”

If not paid by December 31, the cost of the clean up will be added to the taxes payable on the property.
