Fire destroys shed on PIB land

A 50 year old storage shed was destroyed by fire over the weekend.

Fire broke out in the shed on Green Mountain Road in Penticton around 5:30 p.m. Saturday.

Penticton Indian Band fire chief, Barry Philip, says there was nothing they could do to save the structure which belonged to a band elder.

“When we arrived on scene, the shed was pretty much destroyed, all we could do was set up a perimeter barrier to protect the nearby homes,” says Philip.

He says the shed was located near at least two homes and there was risk of the fire spreading.

“We are investigating, however, it looks like the fire was accidentally started.”

Philip says the shed was used to store antiques, but isn’t sure how much they may have been worth.
