It didn't take long for junior hockey to return to the AM 1150 airways.
The radio station and the West Kelowna Warriors announced Thursday morning a select number of road games will be broadcast during the 2022-2023 season.
Warriors president Chris Laurie says the partnership between the hockey club and the radio station will give fans better access to road games while expanding the team's footprint among local sports fans.
“We’re very excited to bring play by play of select West Kelowna Warriors games into the extensive sports schedule on AM 1150,” said Bell Media regional general manager Ken Kilcullen.
“Our team is impressed by the energy, community involvement and dedication to West Kelowna the Warriors bring along with an outstanding fan experience in the rink! We hope to add to that with the exposure that our group of stations bring (AM 1150. 99.9 Virgin Radio and 101.5 Move Radio)."
The deal represents the first ever radio partnership for the Warriors since their relocation from Langley in 2006.
The limited 13-game schedule begins with the regular season opener in Cowichan Valley Friday, Sept. 23. Among the games broadcast will be two games each in Penticton, Vernon and Salmon Arm.
AM1150 will be home to not only the Warriors, but also the Vancouver Canucks, World Junior Championships, the soccer World Cup, Okanagan Sun football and Seattle Seahawks football.
Chase Johnston will have the call of all Warriors games.
