Kelowna latest crime fighting tool has hit the road running.

The RCMP's two-member target team has been credited with a large seizure of drugs, stolen property and weapons at a Kelowna motel Wednesday.

"The Target Team, assisted by uniform and plainclothes officers executed a search warrant at the Ponderosa Motel," says RCMP Constable, Julie Rattee.

"A significant quantity of crack cocaine, stolen property and two hand-guns (one of them loaded) were seized."

Rattee says a 25-year-old Kelowna man has been charged with possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking and weapons offences.

The man, known to police, remains in custody.

"The two person Target Team, which commenced duties last week, is a component of the Kelowna RCMP's crime reduction strategy, focusing on prolific offenders and high-crime areas."

The team is expected to grow to five members later this year.
