Water treatment plant ready to go

After more than a year and a half of construction, it’s almost ready to open.

Officials expect the new District of Summerland Water Treatment Plant will be fully operational next week.

Water Operations Superintendent, Greg Mealing, says the construction, which began in August 2006, is complete.

“Staff and hired contractors are currently in the process of making the final system checks before releasing treated water into the distribution system,” says Mealing.

He says residents should not notice any change in water quality as the transition takes place, but there may be minor fluctuations in turbidity and chlorine residuals.

“Staff will be testing and monitoring water quality throughout the start-up process and will notify the public if any health concerns arise.”
