Council supports Blue Gator

by - Story: 36793

Kelowna City council has agreed to support the Blue Gator nightclub in a bid to expand its patio hours, mostly on the basis of fairness.

The Gator patio currently has to stop serving drinks at 11 p.m., and Councillor Norm Letnick says other downtown patios are allowed to serve until one or even two in the morning.

Letnick is the councillor who had debate deferred on the nightspot operators' request two weeks ago, so planning staff could gather up information about other downtown patio serving hours.

That list shows the Blue Gator to be the only licensed facility downtown that is limited to an 11 p.m. patio closing.

After looking over a list of other patio hours, council agreed to support the Blue Gator request.

The Lawrence Avenue club also wants the right to occasionally open at 9 a.m. for special events. It already is licensed to serve, indoors, until 2 a.m.

Council agreed with its operators last night that the Blue Gator crowd is generally mature, and trouble-free.
