The antiquated Birch Avenue Lift Station will finally be replaced.
R355 Enterprises was awarded the contract by Kelowna City Council after tendering the lowest of three bids.
The contract is worth slightly more than $600,000.
"The work was originally tendered in June, however, all tenders were rejected because the low bid was over budget," Wastewater Engineer, Joel Shaw told Council.
"We re-entered the work in November with changes to the scope of work and schedule."
The Lift Station, located in Cameron Park, is 45 years old.
Shaw says the station needs to be replaced in order to accommodate projected increasing flows and address maintenance problems.
Shaw says construction should not affect the daycare and pre-school located in the park.
He says any odors from the station will be minimal and access to the facilities will be maintained 24 hours a day.
The work is scheduled for completion in 2008.
