Penticton Vees best Wenatchee Wild 5-3 at home Saturday night

Vees grab ninth win in a row

The Penticton Vees grabbed their ninth win in a row Saturday night, besting the Wenatchee Wild 5-3 at home.

The Vees got off to a quick start at the South Okanagan Events Centre, with Spencer Smith, Thomas Pichette and Brett Moravec netting three unanswered goals in the first period.

And just 55 seconds into the second period, Frank Djurasevic put the Vees ahead by four.

The Wild got some life back in them just 30 seconds later though, with Brett Oberle putting the puck past Kaeden Lane, and bringing the Wild to within three.

The Vees' Josh Nadeau grabbed his 16th goal of the season at 6:13 in the second, bringing an end to the night for the Wild's netminder Andy Vlaha.

The Wild mustered a bit of a comeback after their goaltender change, putting in two more goals before the final whistle, but it wasn't enough to overcome the deficit.

The Vees 17th win of the season keeps them in the first place in the Interior division of the BCHL, with one point over the Salmon Arm Silverbacks. The Vees hold two games in hand over Salmon arm though.

The Vees return to action Tuesday night against the Merritt Centennials at the Nicola Valley Memorial Arena. The puck drops at 7 p.m.
