Highway 99 reopens again Saturday, following Wednesday slide

Highway 99 reopens again

Highway 99 north of Pemberton has once again reopened following another landslide that crossed the road near Duffy Lake Wednesday night.

Saturday afternoon, the Ministry of Transportation said the highway has been reopened for essential travel only, and checkpoints will be in place along the route.

Additionally, the highway is not open for commercial traffic, but for passenger vehicles only, no larger than cube vans.

“The highway infrastructure is vulnerable following recent storms. The Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure is monitoring the weather and the performance of the highway. People should be aware that Highway 99 and others could be closed at any time if conditions change.”

Four people were killed, and one person remains missing, after an initial landslide on the highway in mid-November hit a number of vehicles. That slide closed the highway for five days
