A wildfire burning just off the Coquihalla Highway has recently been moving parallel to the roadway.
The July Mountain wildfire is still estimated to be 1,267 hectares in size and remains extremely visible to passing motorists on Highway 5.
The BC Wildfire Service says the fire is within a kilometre of the highway, while some motorists driving by have estimated it to be about 500 metres away.
“The fire did not see any growth on the north and east flanks, and bucketing support continues to support these areas,” said BCWS in a statement Tuesday. “The fire is currently moving parallel to the highway.”
The fire has resulted in an evacuation order for 25 properties in the Juliet Drive area north of Coldwater River Provincial Park.
There are now 30 firefighters being supported by three helicopters and two pieces of heavy equipment in battling the fire.
